Investing in Independence: The Co-Group Supports Onemda's New Melbourne Campus

Empowering individuals with high physical support needs through education, therapy, and social connection is at the heart of Onemda's mission. They offer programs and activities designed to help participants learn, grow, achieve goals, build confidence and independence, and look after their health and wellbeing … all while making friends and having fun! The Co-Group is proud to announce our recent donation to support this vital work.

A New Campus for a Brighter Future

Onemda is creating a transformative new campus in Melbourne's North, designed specifically for individuals who require significant physical assistance. This innovative space will go beyond traditional care, offering participants:

  • Accessible learning environments: Optimized for individuals with limited mobility, allowing them to pursue educational and therapeutic goals.

  • Supportive living accommodations: Fostering independence and a sense of community.

  • Specialized equipment: Catering to diverse needs, including hoists, therapeutic chairs, and sensory gardens.

Bridging the Gap Between Needs and Funding

While the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) offers crucial support, there are often gaps in funding for essential equipment. Onemda identified these unmet needs, requiring resources such as:

  • Princess chairs: These supportive, yet comfortable, chairs offer a welcome break from wheelchairs, allowing participants to engage in group activities.

  • Sensory tools: Touchscreen laptops, iPads, and calming spaces support individuals with autism.

  • Kitchen appliances: Enabling participants to learn valuable life skills and foster a sense of independence.

  • Basic amenities: Lockers, blinds, and sound panels contribute to a comfortable and functional environment.

The Power of Partnership

Thanks to The Co-Group's donation, Onemda was able to purchase key equipment like princess chairs, kitchen appliances, and sound panels. As Campus Coordinator Indy Singh says:

"The Co-Group's generous grant has enabled us to buy important resources like Princess Chairs. These chairs are a game-changer, allowing participants to take a break from their wheelchairs and still participate in activities."

Making a Difference, Together

The Co-Group is honored to be a part of Onemda's vision for a more inclusive and empowering future. By investing in the Westmeadows campus, we're helping to create an environment where individuals with high physical support needs can thrive, learn, and connect.
